EAMSC 2016: Taiwan

February 13th, 2016 by in News

“The future starts today, not tomorrow.” – Pope John Paul II

Why did I choose to begin with that quote?

1455344173719East Asian Medical Students’ Conference (EAMSC) 2016 which was held in Taiwan on 24th-29th of January 2016 brought up “Medical Care in the Future, when Technology meets Humanity” as its theme. This conference aims to make medical students from around the world aware on how the future will be in the medical area. So, the future does start today when people, especially those in their respective field (medical, in this case), begin to be concerned about what the future holds and start to prepare themselves for it.

EAMSC 2016: Taiwan, like every other AMSA conference, offered a wide range of activities for the participants to experience. Academic-related activities, community services, and social events, all emphasizing the three AMSA philosophies: Knowledge, Action, and Friendship respectively.

Academic competitions, keynote lectures, WHO simulation, and panel discussion are the academic activities we were able to take part in. By joining those kind of events, we were really opened to the aforementioned theme, “Medical Care in the Future”. They gave us insights on how the medical aspects will excel in both near and far future and I myself found this to be very useful and enlightening for facing challenges in my future job as a medical doctor.

Medical professionals are there for the sake of people, and this conference was able to remind me of this fact. During the hospital visit, we were given the chance to do something for the community. Each group has different approach on what they do the people but the general goal was to entertain people and make people happy since we were aware that happiness would reduce whatever burden they were carrying and resulting in health improvement.

Last but not least, much time were allocated for social events by the organizing committee: welcoming party, running man, sightseeing, ball party, cultural booth, and cultural night. These events gave us the chance to be closer to other delegates and make lasting international friendships. There is no doubt that all of us did enjoy these events, making this conference almost impossible to be forgotten in the process.

1455344174973To conclude, I, as the chief of delegates for AMSA-Indonesia in this conference, can proudly say that all 32 AMSA-Indonesia delegates, 6 of whom was from AMSA-UI (Michelle Valeria, Oliver Emmanuel, Raksheeth Agarwal, Suripto, Marcel Aditya Nugraha, and me), surely gained many things from this conference. Oliver and Raksheeth even got the chance to present their scientific paper in this international conference, and they did a great job. I am sure that when the opportunity arises, we will not hesitate to turn ourselves in this kind of events again.
